The officer's hands lift slightly and he takes a step back as Jessica nearly walks into him, turning to watch her, and in the process, turning away from the alley. "Oop... careful." His eyes sweep across her, inevitably lingering for a split-second on what's visible of her burns. "You should watch where you are going, ma'am."
#HongKong – November 9, 2025
Yan Sun 's eyes widen as she hears the voice of the PubSec officer, pulling her legs up in an attempt to reduce her visibility from the street and pausing her work as she listens.
Jessica studies the officer for a moment before flicking her attention back to her omni-tool again. "I will call you back..." she mutters to her imaginary friend, giving the interface a quick swipe to really sell it. "You should watch where you are going." she says, slowly backing up in hopes that he'll follow her out of the opening of the alley but seeming to be in no hurry to disengage. "Or... maybe you are trying to be run
into? Mmm?" she hums in thought, as if she's just figured him out. It's hard to tell whether she's being antagonistic or flirtatious and the snicker that follows doesn't help to clarify things.
The officer, a slim man in his twenties, furrows his eyebrows, the 'call' immediately recontextualizing the earlier laughing fit. The words that follow draw an uncomfortable sound from him, put on the backfoot by her unusual demeanor, but he takes a step closer to the middle of the sidewalk to discourage her departure. "No, ma'am. I just have some quick questions for you..."
Jessica gives an amused "Ahhh..." as the uncomfortable sound slips out of the officer, as if she 'got him'. His mention of questions gets a small roll of her eyes, but she doesn't seem to be in any hurry to leave. Being waylaid seems more like an amusing annoyance to her than anything else. She partially expects to hear a cartoonish scream from the alley as Yan Sun inevitably slips and falls, but when that doesn't come, she merely folds
her arms across her chest. At least she's pulled his attention away from the alley. "What you are wanting to know?" she asks, well versed in the art of not sounding like her heart is beating out of her chest.
The officer casually reaches up to tap the side of his visor as he shifts his weight slightly, one hand resting on his belt. "Do you live in this area, Ms...?" he asks, obviously looking for her to provide a name by the way the question trails off.
Yan Sun swallows and resumes her work, trying to split her attention between the contents of her omni-tool display and the conversation that she's struggling to overhear.
Jessica doesn't volunteer a name and snaps off a quick response. "No. Do you?" She doesn't seem particularly nervous. He may as well not even be law enforcement. Just a chance encounter with a stranger. Warring gangs. Drug dealers. Pissed off krogan. Hired thugs and trigger happy mercenaries. She's had enough experience with being in uncomfortable situations that it's going to take more than a uniformed law enforcement officer to knock
The officer doesn't seem thrilled with the response, lips turning thin and one eyebrow rising slightly. He draws in a breath. "I don't. Can I see some ID, ma'am?"
Jessica scoffs, looking as if she's annoyed that this is becoming more than it needs to be. "For why?" she asks through a frown. "I am just on vacation!" she volunteers some information. And it's not exactly a lie. But maybe it's enough to get him to ease up. "What I am doing? Mm?" she continues as she lifts her omni-tool and begins to swipe at it, seemingly working to pull up her identification.
His stance relaxes just a little at the mention of 'vacation', but he continues to wait for her to find her ID as he replies. "City authorities require all residents and visitors to keep their identification with them at all times. We can't keep you safe if we don't know who and where you are."
Jessica cocks an eyebrow, a hint of that previous amusement returning to her expression. "Do I look like I am needing to be kept safe?" she asks with a tilt of her head. Regardless, she gives her interface a few more swipes before the officer would be able to access her credentials. As much as she would've liked to avoid this, she knows better than to do anything stupid. This isn't Adrasteia and he's not some hired personal security.
The PubSec officer 's gaze briefly sweeps across Jessica again. "Not really," he admits with a half-mumble, half-chuckle. He brings up his omni-tool, spending a moment comparing the received ID with the data pulled up by his visor's facial recognition scan. It checks out, but... "Private security? Out in space?" His eyebrows rise, demeanor shifting as curiosity takes hold. "What's that like?"
Jessica shifts her weight from one leg to the other, the only indication that she's silently hoping that Yan Sun's work holds up and she's not further questioned until this becomes a whole thing. The question draws a snort out of her and the relaxation it brings is mostly only noticeable to her. "Verrry dangerous." she drawls, pushing back the discomfort that comes with the obvious invasion of her privacy. If Yan Sun is successful,
hopefully they'll be able to get a little bit of that back. "You know about the Terminus Systems, yes?" she continues, not one to pass up an opportunity to pump her own ego a little.
The officer nods a couple of times as his omni-tool interface dissipates. "They say it's totally lawless. Full of pirates, slavers, and geth."
Yan Sun briefly pokes her head out to glance towards the alley opening, a little baffled by the turn of the conversation, but quickly returns to her work.
Jessica gives a nod, seeming to approve of that perception. It just makes her seem even more badass, doesn't it? "Mmm. I have been there many times. Is how I get-..." her addition is accompanied by a dramatic little head tilt and a gesture to the side of her face. "But after my last job? I am thinking maybe is time for a vacation."
The officer nods along, seeming intrigued by the notion that the woman in front of him has been on dangerous adventures on exotic planets. He allows his gaze to return to her scars when she points them out, a sort of morbid fascination on his face. The mention of her last job quickly brings a question of "What happened?" It sounds like curiosity, not interrogation.
Jessica snickers, letting out an exasperated sigh, as if it's not the sort of story you can just spit out in the middle of the street on any idle afternoon. "Too much." she says. "But, while I am there I am working with a girl who is from here." she explains, uncharacteristically volunteering information beyond what's being asked. As she continues, it becomes clear why. "She is-..." she tilts her head this way and that, as if weighing
how to describe her, "...verrry stupid. But she is hot, so-..." she shrugs. Can't miss an opportunity to get some digs in. Especially when Yan Sun can't fight back. She settles back against the wall of the building as the conversation continues longer than she had initially intended. "This is why I am here. To relax and to have some fun. Maybe meet some more women? Maybe some men?" she gives the officer a lingering look before
qualifying her words with another shrug. "And then? I will go back to make more credits and get rich or die and leave a verrry sexy corpse." It's said as if she's not particularly bothered about which outcome awaits her.
The uniformed man's eyes widen slightly behind his visor, and he nods as Jessica speaks. Her last few sentences, and the look that accompanies them, has him rubbing his neck, the chuckle that accompanies the gesture sounding a little flustered. "Well, I hope you enjoy your stay in the city. And, uh... I mean, if you and your, uh, friend, need someone to show you around, I know the city pretty well," he tries, seemingly neglecting the
Yan Sun leans back against the wall on finishing her updates to her cloaking program, but doesn't actually implement the changes yet given that Jessica is mid-conversation with a cop. Instead, she focuses entirely on listening in now, scrunching up her nose at what she hears.
Jessica's smile widens, feeling as if she firmly has the upper hand at this point. Maybe she should just pluck the patch off his uniform and stick it to her own shirt. She pokes at her teeth with her tongue as her gaze lowers to her omni-tool once more and she gives it a few pokes. She frowns as she studies the interface, her gaze slipping from the device to the man in front of her. "You are not sharing your information." she muses, as
if he should have already been on top of that if he's expecting a call. With a tilt of her head, she levels a dangerous, expectant look back on him.
The officer looks a little startled, but quickly gains a grin as he re-activates his omni-tool interface and makes a few quick button-presses to ping Jessica's omni-tool with a contact exchange request from 'Kelvin Kwong'. "Heh, uh, there you go," he blurts out, shifting a little on the spot, obviously not quite sure how to act.
Jessica studies the information displayed on her omni-tool, looking between it and the officer before her. "Okay, Kelvin." she says, her accent turning his name over on her tongue, "Maaaybe I will give you a call." She shrugs, as if she hasn't yet decided yet. "But me and my friend like to party. So do not answer if you can not keep up." Now that she knows she's getting to him, she just wants to twist the dagger a little bit.
Really make him squirm. Her gaze flicks back down the street and she gives him a nod. "Go. You should get back to work now." she continues, as if giving him permission to leave with a firm dismissal.
Officer Kwong - Kelvin - swallows hard. "Right. I'll- Yes," he agrees with a nod, chuckling a little awkwardly. "I should. Duty calls. Enjoy your afternoon, miss." With those words, a couple of backwards steps, and a gesture somewhere halfway between a wave and a salute, he does his best to not look like he's beating a hasty retreat.
Jessica holds her ground, smile etched into her features as she watches the good officer retreat. Once he's put some distance between them, she lets out a heavy breath, though her smile lingers. Not due to any of "Kelvin's" charms, that's for sure. But that old, familiar feeling... Pulse pounding, adrenaline coursing through her veins. She silently congratulates herself and turns to continue down the street in the opposite direction of
the officer. She can't exactly just go right back into the alley she came out of. That would bring all sorts of questions down if Officer Kwong saw. Instead, she heads around the corner, looking for another entrance to the alley.
It doesn't take too long to find another alley that link up with the one where Yan Sun still waits atop the AC from which she accessed the utility cabinet. From her perch she's looking around for any sign of Jessica, lighting up when she finally sees her. She clambers to hang off the side of the AC and drops, narrowly avoiding ending up on her ass by using a hand against the ground to stabilize herself as she lands.
Jessica still has a big smirk on her face as she approaches. Still riding that adrenaline high, she doesn't even give Yan Sun a chance to recover from her drop before she brings her arm up across Yan Sun's chest and presses her back against the building- perhaps a little harder than intended- and pins her there, leans into a rather aggressive kiss.
Yan Sun is caught entirely off-guard, letting out a surprised yelp as she's pinned against the wall in the middle of brushing her hand off against her jeans. The sound is muffled by Jessica's lips, and though initially startled - and in a bit of pain from her back hitting concrete - she quickly melts into the kiss, hands seeking out Jessica's sides and running up her back under the jacket as a pleased hum vibrates in her chest.
Jessica's other arm rises, hand catching Yan Sun under the chin to grip her jaw and help hold her in place as she presses deeper into the kiss. Her tongue seeks out Yan Sun's, drawing shapes against it as the world outside of the back alley is all but forgotten for the moment. By the time she finally breaks away, she's breathless. She uses the hand on Yan Sun's jaw to give her head a playful little shove away and slips out of her grip,
slowly backing down the alley, back in the direction she came. With a few wiggles of her fingers on either hand, she gestures for Yan Sun to follow, not wanting to re-emerge back onto the street the officer might still be on.
Yan Sun draws in a sharp breath at the slight shove, remaining leaned against the wall for a moment as she catches her breath, and her mind catches up to what just happened. At Jessica's urging she pushes off from the wall, quick to follow after her around the corner with an exhilarated giggle - maybe Jessica isn't the only one that got a bit of an adrenaline kick. "Holy crap that was amazing!" she hisses excitedly, trying her best to keep
Jessica ups her pace, backpedaling a bit quicker as Yan Sun catches up. A snicker escapes her as they round the corner, her hands seeking out Yan Sun's to tug her along. Artificial or not, a sense of success and safety comes with disappearing out of sight of the street that their would-be saboteur, the good officer Kwong, occupied. "So? It is done...?" she asks, slowing to a stop now that there's a semblance of being out of the line of
Yan Sun nods and flashes a wide grin. "It. Is. Done," she confirms, perhaps a little smugly, and lets out a relieved breath.
Jessica's grin widens and she uses her grip on Yan Sun's hands to pull her in and press another brief, charged kiss against her lips. "And now...?" she asks, lingering close as the electricity still zips through her body.
Yan Sun lingers close after the kiss breaks, hands breaking free to run up Jessica's arms, crossing behind her neck as she goes for another kiss. "Mmhnow... we won't have to worry about anyone tracking us.... or any stupid fucking drones. Now... we can do whatever we want," she says with a grin.
Jessica presses forward, her body against Yan Sun's, her hands moving to Yan Sun's sides, slipping around her. She allows her nose to nuzzle alongside Yan Sun's. "You are verrry sexy when you are doing crime, kitty cat." she teases, her own grin mirroring her partner's.
Yan Sun lets out a goofy, pleased little laugh. "You too..." she says, arms shifting to cross behind Jessica's neck, elbows coming to rest on her shoulders. Another quick kiss before she goes back to nuzzling. "I can't believe you did that..."
