Urdnot takes one step towards Victoria. "We have our own shuttle, we're not going with you." he says over helmet speakers (not comms). "Copy," he then answers over comms and stomps up to pull the door open without waiting for Ehanis. Opening a door did get him smacked last time, but krogan bravado is what it is. "Another quarters," he reports over comms as he stomps inside with the Claymore raised. "It's clear."
#Aroste – April 15, 2026
Wenera pulls back as she nods in agreement with the krogan before walking up to Victoria. She still has tears rolling down her cheeks, but she steels herself again. "I will answer your questions," she says, briefly interrupted by a cough as she passes by the door towards the maintenance corridor, "but he's right. I don't plan to go back to Freedom Falls." She then taps her cargo pants pocket. "Do remind me to give you
Renala gets up on a crate and takes aim at the salarian, but the grenade warning makes her drop back down and take cover.
Uvena braces as the grenade warning sounds, and prepares to hold whatever turns up in a stasis field.
Ehanis steps around Celyna and starts on the other side, a brief grin at the comment from the other asari. "Good," she says. "I hope you didn't plan on taking her alive, though." She does hurry up a little when the order comes in, but the impatient krogan already reports back by the time she steps back after covering the visible wounds.
(Kitchen) Sala stays down, and her warped bloodied neck is fortunately not very visible as the asari is lying face down.
(Quarters 2) The room Syld went into is well lit and appears to be a smaller private quarters with a double bed, a night stand, a dresser, a comfortable chair and a terminal. The terminal is showing the same errors as the one in the lobby.
(Hangar) The grenade flies away, thankfully past Uvena, to the right edge of the garage door, and it shakes the building as it connects with the hangar floor. The garage door is shook by the blast and there's a loud sound from above before it rolls down to block the exit. At the same time, a de-cloaking salarian is sent flying away from the explosion and sliding to a stop north-west of the south-west pillar. He tries to get up a
(Outside) The outside of the building remains clear, and the YMIR mech is still lying face down where Renala left it. The hail has stopped, but the wind is pretty strong as it's gone from a gale to a storm in the time they've been here. Precipitation is in the near future, however.
Leah gives a roll of her eyes, idly resecuring her medi-gel pouch. "Well it hasn't affected your sense of humor." she muses, adding a mutters, "...unfortunately." though there's a hint of a genuine smile beneath it. "But... thanks." she continues, a bit more sincerity slipping into her tone. "You weren't so bad yourself."
Jason continues to sprint southbound, the impact of the nearby grenade felt even outside, but it doesn't interrupt his stride. "Report!" he calls out as he begins to round the southern wall since nobody has responded to his previous request. He braces to bowl over the escaping salarian, unaware that he's on the ground inside.
Victoria pulls an annoyed face behind her helmet at the answer given to her. "You should make sure to talk to Wolfe, before leaving here." She continues her slow pace down the hallway. "Why do you have Vay's onmi-tool?"
Zaylus | The salarian's interrupted escape provides a good reason to ditch the heavy weapon, which he stows on his back immediately. "He's still inside the hangar." He reports back, drawing his heavy pistol and approaching the static hostile.
Celyna snickers, the grin crossing her lips at Leah's muttering going unseen under her helmet. She offers her a subtle nod of respect as Ehanis finishes up, her attention turning to the asari again afterwards. Some of the tension leaves her body as the medigel anesthetic starts to kick in, and she lets out a relieved sigh. "Thanks," she mutters before her attention is drawn to Sala. "Doubt anyone'll mind," she says, reaching towards her
discarded chestplate with one hand, a faint biotic glow enveloping it as she pulls the piece of armor into her grasp.
Philip flinches as the explosion goes off, hunching low and hiding his face behind the weapon. Once he lowers it and looks around his eyes linger a moment on the suddenly rolled down garage door before landing on the salarian. "I-... I think I got him!" he exclaims, before realizing he's not on comms. He stows the grenade launcher and activates his omni-tool. "We got him!" he reports in while drawing his pistol in his free hand,
approaching the stasis'd escape artist. "Uh... I don't know if you can here me, but don't go tryin' any more tricks now!"
Urdnot returns to the hallway and stomps over to close the hallway door leading towards the maintenance corridor to contain the smoke for a little longer.
Wenera flinches at the explosion shaking the building, then shudders a bit from the cold as they near the exit. She nods at the first instruction, but has no comms of her own to answer with. "I made sure to remember which drawer she put it in when we were brought here," she says.
Uvena approaches the salarian slowly while holding the field as strongly as she can. "I have him in stasis," she reports over comms. "Orders?"
(Hallway) Before Syld closed the door, there was a concerning orange glow coming from the maintenance corridor beyond.
(Hangar) The faint light from Uvena's biotic field remains there, but the hangar is otherwise very dark. Infrared vision or omni-tool flashlights are recommended. The salarian is not trying anything right now.
(Outside) Things are still clear outside for the moment. Smoke is rising from the hatch and is pushed westward by the wind.
Ehanis takes a step back before glancing at the hallway, turning off her omni-tool. "No problem," she says. The power going out does make the fire problem more urgent, and she mutters, "Fuck," under her breath.
Leah listens intently to the comms chatter, ready to get moving if she's needed. "Help yourself." she offers Celyna, giving a little sweeping gesture with her hand. The sound of things winding down is a good indicator, but the power problems pull her attention towards the hallway, smile slipping away. "The fire is gonna be a real problem soon." she announces over comms, gesturing for Ehanis and Celyna to follow her as she starts out of
Jason slows his sprint to a stop just in front of the garage door. Clutching his Revenant in one hand he draws in a few breaths, studying the now-closed door. "Copy..." he replies, only the smallest hint of disappointment entering his tone over being unable to full-sprint tackle the retreating salarian. "I'm-... uhh-... coming back now." he frowns, tilting his head as he assesses the damage done to the door. "Seems like that might be the
last of them, so-... you said salarian, right? Secure him and see if it's our man." Stowing his Revenant on his back he gives a roll of his shoulders, sizing the door up as lowers into a squat, finds his footing, and grips the door however he can find purchase. Straighten the back, lift with your legs, and, with the help of a whole lot of grunting-... nothing. The door doesn't budge. After a few tries, the sound of
Victoria and Wenera's chatter nears, causing him to release his grip on the door and stands up sharply, giving a quick look around to make sure nobody saw his futile attempts. As the pair begin to exit nearby he passes them a dip of his head, a silent: 'Good work, well done' and moves his hands back to a more neutral position on his hips. A position that doesn't announce that he just failed to open a garage door. But seeing
Va'ynna's condition causes his focus to shift, frown deepening behind his helmet as he steps towards the door they're exiting from. "Get her back to the shuttle and check her out. Make sure she's good for the flight home. Otherwise I'm sure we can find someplace on the island to get her treatment first, alright?"
((RETCON remove "Help yourself." she offers Celyna, giving a little sweeping gesture with her hand.*))
Victoria gives Wenera another nod. "Good thinking. Sorry, I ain't got anything to help you with the weather." She stops near Jason, as an idea hits her. "Did we want to contact Jasper, and get him closer? Or just leave him where he is?"
Zaylus holds his place as the lights of the hangar go off. He sacrifices his bead on the salarian to raise a light from his omni-tool, illuminating the hostile so Uvena and Phil can keep their focus. "You got some kind of restraints?" He tilts is light toward Phil. "Don't think he'll be talking like this." He twitches his head at the mention of the fire, fighting the instinct to turn and
Celyna 's attention is drawn towards the wall as concerning noises sound from the server room, and between that, the lights going out, and the increasing smell of smoke, it's pretty clear that it's time to get a move-on. She nods in agreement with Leah and gives Ehanis a nudge to get her moving before going herself, activating her omni-tool flashlight to help navigate.
Philip hesitates for a moment before nodding in response to Zaylus, patting various pockets on his armor vest until he finds his zip cuffs, pulling one out and getting behind the salarian, ready for when the stasis field drops.
Wenera shivers as she exits the building with Victoria and Va'ynna, not dressed for the freezing temperatures coming at you at 50 miles per hour. "Is it far to your shuttle?" she asks.
Urdnot turns on his omni-tool flashlight in response to the power going out, and stomps into the hangar to look around the room before his flashlight also points at the salarian.
Ehanis nods and starts heading out of the room. "I'm going," she says and stops by the hangar door as she waits for orders.
Va'ynna stirs slightly and opens her eyes, looking up at Victoria with wide eyes before reaching to place a hand on the head wound. She doesn't say anything.
Uvena nods and speaks over comms. "I'll drop the field in three, two, one, now," she lets the field fade right after speaking.
Renala closes the distance as well, turning on her omni-tool flast light as well. "Don't try anything, or it won't be a stasis field next time," she threaten.
(Hangar) The salarian stays still as the stasis field drops, and waits until he is restrained before he sits up. "I give up," he says. "Don't shoot. I'll cooperate." The voice from the helmet speaker is difficult to confirm his identity by, as none in this room spent much time around Jelvan; the helmet also has no visor. The armor matches the pilot's from the footage, and they have been told that the pilot was Jelvan Darennon,
(Kitchen) The kitchen is still lit slightly by the hole in the ceiling, but not much of that gets into the hallway. The temperature is still rising, but the fire has yet to start spreading into the kitchen.
Leah lacking a helmet, simply keeps the night vision active on her visor as she steps out into the hall and starts to lead the way towards the hangar where everyone else seems to be congregating. Once they reach the hangar, she steps inside and remains near the door, keeping out of the way of the others.
Jason casts a glance towards the west, considering the suggestion for just a moment before Wenera's shivvering makes the decision for him and he nods. "Good idea." he says, "You hear that, Jasper? The action seems to have died down, should be safe to bring the shuttle in. That way we can keep V and Wenera out of this weather."
Jason nods, his gaze shifting to Vicky. "Just-... wait inside until he lands." he offers, bringing a hand to Victoria's shoulder to usher her back into the hall. As Va'ynna's eyes flutter open he finds himself drawing in a heavy breath, relief washing over him. Confirmation that she's breathing and in one piece is one thing, but regaining consciousness is a big step in easing his concerns. "Hey you." he offers softly.
Victoria looks at Wenera. "It was a little bit of a walk, but that won't matter now." Feels Va'ynna's slight movement in her arms, she turns her head to look at her. "Hey sweetheart." A smile on her face hidden by her helmet. "Your injury seems to be skin deep from what I have seen."
Zaylus steadies his flashlight on the salarian, backing up a touch incase someone needs to make good on their biotic threat. "Nobody else is hiding out, are they?" He asks pointedly. "They'll be a crisp soon if they are."
Celyna follows Leah into the hangar, finding a quiet spot to lurk as she focuses on breathing without wincing, the mangled breastplate still in hand.
Philip hurries to secure the salarian's wrists behind his back with the zip cuffs, and then, after helping him sit up, he goes to remove the helmet.
Wenera looks at Va'ynna. "I told you they'll save us," she says with a small smile before she gets out of the cold to enter the hallway.
Va'ynna turns her head to look at Jason then back at Victoria. She keeps her hand on her head injury and looks quite pained in spite of the medical assessment. "Hey," she says in a low whisper that easily drowned out by the heavy winds.
Ehanis is right behind Leah. "Do you think you can fly that, Syld?" she asks, shining her light on the shuttle in the middle of the room.
Renala crouches down next to the salarian, shining a light, bringing up her omni-tool. "The armor matches our pilot," she says over comms before she reaches over to take off his helmet.
The salarian sighs at the turian's question, and spepaks after Renala gets his helmet off. He does indeed look like Jelvan, and sound like him too when speaking, "Lost contact with Jensen on the roof, sent Serus to check on him. Two were in this room. Baculum was holding the hallway. Enos and T'Vaoma were in the server room. Smith was with Sala. That is all of them."
Renala ((-before she reaches over to take off his helmet. +before bringing up her omni-tool to compare against the picture she downloaded from Redrock's database before going. "And so does the face. It's Jelvan."))
Leah keeps her Predator at her side, trio of blades firmly secured to her chestplate now that the action is over. "Not to rush anyone, but it looks like things are under control in the hangar and we probably don't have a lot of time with that fire spreading. What are our orders?"
Jason allows a smile to take shape, nodding to Wenera's assessment. "Was there ever any doubt?" he asks, his gaze returning to Va'ynna. Before he can get too comfortable, however, Renala and Leah chime in over comms, forcing him to accept that he doesn't exactly have time to chit chat with Va'ynna. Still on the clock. "Shit, sorry I-..." he gestures further into the building with an apologetic dip of his head, "...gotta wrap things up
here. We'll catch up later." With that, he hurries back towards the hangar. "Anyone looking for something to do, fan out and collect anything that looks like it might be of interest. Omni-tools, gear, terminals. If you can carry it and it's not nailed down? Start loading it up in the shuttle in the hangar. Speaking of, we're gonna need someone to work on clearing the door-... blow it if you have to, and start prepping the shuttle
and anything else that might be worth taking with us. I want it all out of the building and out of danger before the fire spreads too far. Just keep someone on Jelvan."
Victoria keeps carrying Va'ynna, wanting to give her a easier time after coming back to. She walks back into the hallway. "While we wait, Wenera there is a pouch on my back left hip with medi-gel. You wanna do me a favor and apply it to Vay's forehead."
Zaylus | The flashlight dips as he appears thoughtful, perhaps doing the math on all the names and locations being listed out. The mention of the blocked door gets his attention back, and he swings his light over that way. "Grenade took it down. A few more to take it all the way down?" He suggests, figuring the missile launcher on his back might be overkill, even for this.
Celyna 's attention is piqued by Jelvan's words, and she begins counting on her fingers. Eventually she walks around the room a bit, shining her light around the hangar until she spots the two bodies in there, chuckling to herself afterwards. "Guess we cleaned up," she comments, loud enough for the salarian to hear, and then she looks his way, eyebrows furrowed as she adds, with equal amounts mockery and bafflement: "The fuck was your
plan, dipshit? Really thought this sad shack and a couple of assholes was gonna hold off a a half-competent strike team?"
Philip furrows his brow, studying the salarian. His shoulders slump slightly with relief when Renala identifies him, sparing the human from having to admit that he had no clue if he was looking at Jelvan or not. He stands up, looking towards the door as Zaylus speaks. "Uhhh... is that... safe?" he asks uncertainly, looking around at the others.
Wenera nods and takes the medi-gel from the indicated pouch, and she gently lifts Va'ynna's hand to apply it underneath it.
Urdnot looks around the room, aiming his flashlight on the ceiling hatch as he traces the exposed wires and blocks. "Seems like they're grabbing the shuttles anyway," he says to Ehanis before walking out into the hallway. He answers on comms: "I'm checking the kitchen before we lose it. If anyone finds a jacket for Wenera, grab it." He hurries towards the kitchen.
Va'ynna frowns at Jason's question, but she doesn't answer it before duty calls him away. She doesn't take her eyes off Victoria's helmet as medi-gel is applied to her.
Ehanis nods and heads back to the hallway, bringing up the flashlight on her omni-tool. "I'll check the conference room."
Uvena tries to use a biotic field in the hangar door, not knowing that it's been tested before, and it's not budging. "We might need explosives, yes," she says to Zaylus.
Renala chuckles at Zaylus' suggestion. She stays with the salarian. "We should probably move the captive first," she says, not over comms. "I wouldn't want that thing slapping us."
(Hallway) The closed door to the maintenace corridor in the hallway is keeping the smoke at bay for now, but there is a faint orange glow in the kitchen.
(Hangar) The salarian sighs, but he doesn't answer Celyna's question. "Not my plan," he says matter of factly. "I'll speak with leadership, in exchange for release."
Leah nods to herself, offering a quick, "Copy." in response to Jason's orders. She gives one last look across those gathered in the hangar and, confident that they've got this under control, she steps back out into the hall to begin the thankless task of collecting the omni-tools and weaponry of Jelvan's people. Seeing the glow in the kitchen, she decides to start there. "Looks like the fire has already spread to the kitchen." she
announces over comms as she hurries towards the door in a jog to assess just how dangerous it is. "Get that shuttle ready to move, we probably won't have time for more than a quick pass over everything!"
Jason seems to change his priorities upon hearing that the fire is spreading quicker than anticipated. "Alright-... shit! I'm gonna start sweeping the rooms in the hall on my way back, then. I'll grab whatever I can. Vicky?" he glances back down the hall, "As soon as Jasper touches down I want V and Wenera on that shuttle." he finishes, already stepping into the second room along the eastern side of the west hall to begin his sweep.
Victoria looks down at Va'ynna. "I would take the helmet off and give you something pretty to look at, but my hands are kind of full at the moment." She figured a little humour might lighten the mood for the time. She looks over in Jason's direction. "Understood."
Zaylus runs his light over the hangar door while Uvena tests it. "Safe? No, it's not. But look- stuck fast." He announces through his helmet mic. Renala's remark gets a nod and a strained chuckle. "Good point. That'd be a shame." His light swings over to Phil, low enough as not to blind him. "Maybe hit it from the outside? I'll do it if you want. Just gotta get this moving." He says quickly,
Celyna 's helmet shifts slightly as she considers Jelvan's reply. "Tough break," she concludes, heading over to the Kodiak to inspect it. "I'll check the vehicles," she calls in over comms. She may not be an ace pilot, but you don't survive decades as a merc without learning the basics. And she's not particularly in the mood to go running around the building considering her injuries.
Philip nods in agreement with Renala, assuming she'll be the one to do that, before turning his attention to Zaylus. "Uh..." He looks over at the door. "Naw, I got it. I'll just... back up," he decides, before starting to do just that, once again removing the grenade launcher from his back. "Gonna blow out the door soon, keep away out there!"
Urdnot grabs any weapons he can find and the omni-tools off the bodies, which he manages to stow on his armor. He grabs the pot of food from the kitchen counter before leaving the kitchen. There's no time to rummage deeper as the room is starting to get very hot.
Wenera looks at the other wounds, as well, but she can't get to them without taking off the jacket. "Va'ynna has barely said a word since we got here," she says.
Va'ynna does not offer much of a reaction to Victoria's attempt at humor. "It's... okay," she mutters. "It's... it's...." She is still processing all of this.
Ehanis is gathering the paper and folders from the table, even if she remembers them being uninteresting the last time she was there, then moves on to the lobby.
Renala grabs the salarian's arm and pulls him up to stand. "Try anything funny and I won't care who's got questions for you," she brings him with her to the Kodiak shuttle. "Unlock it."
Uvena gets clear as well and she runs over to the APC to take cover and be ready to check it once the door is down.
(Hangar) The salarian looks a bit afraid as Philip readies for an explosion, and does not resist when Renala drags him over to the shuttle and the Kodiak unlocks after he taps at the hand interface of his omni-tool. The smaller shuttle is actually on and powered, and has controls that are mostly familiar to a sky car driver. The dead armored human is still in the pilot's seat, though, but the armor has contained the bleeding. It's a
(Office) The second door along the East wall leads to the office space with four desks and terminals on each. They're still powered, but report connection issues with the central server. There's some stationery on them as well, but no datapads or documents.
(Kitchen) A flaming chunk of the drop-ceiling falls down on top of the dead human merc as the krogan exits.
Leah kicks into gear upon spotting the spreading fire in the kitchen but with Syld handling it, she opts to move on. The passing krogan gets a brief double-take as Leah passes him, unable to confirm whether or not he was carrying a pot of food. Nevermind that. She makes her way to the bathroom to begin collecting the dead turian's equipment.
Jason looks over the identical readouts on the terminals before focusing in on one. He studies it for a moment before reaching down to poke an index finger at the keyboard once. Then a second time. Brows furrowed, he stabs a key a few more times before throwing his arms up, attention jerking towards the door in hope of spotting a roaming Renala. When the tech-angel doesn't appear to answer his prayers, he has no other moves. That's it.
He's finished. It's the only way these sorts of problems get fixed back home. The computer has won. He draws in a deep breath and leans forward, peering back out through the door briefly to ensure that the people out in the hall can't see in. Once sure he's alone, he grabs the terminal and shoves it off the desk. No computer is gonna make a fool out of him. He gives a quick scan around the room before deciding there's nothing of
use and steps back out into the hall- pleased grin hidden behind his helmet- to cross over to check out the quarters since his first sweep wasn't very in-depth.
Victoria looks at Va'ynna with some concern after Wenera's comments. "Yeah, this isn't the first time all this horse shit has happened to her." She stops for a moment. "Don't worry, Vay. Once we are on that shuttle, we go straight to a doctor. Then we head back home and just relax." She was trying her best to comfort Va'ynna at the present time.
((Jason RETCON* He gives a quick scan around the room, briefly taking a moment to check out the stationery for anything of note.))
Zaylus | "Good plan." He says encouragingly, already backpedaling away. With others covering the vehicles, he gives a cursory look at the crates and equipment laying out as he moves toward the north end of the hangar. Retracing his steps during infiltration he's heading for the lobby area, unaware Ehanis already has it covered.
Celyna enters the shuttle, heading over to the cockpit and bringing the haptic interface to life to confirm that the thing is operational.
Philip waits until everyone is away from the south end of the hangar, and then takes a deep breath, shouldering the M-100. He takes his time taking aim at the left side of the door. "Here we go! Firing!" he calls out, letting the first grenade fly.
Urdnot stomps into the hangar and makes a beeline for the shuttle where he puts the weapons on the floor next to the pot of food: M-6 Carnifex (modded: 9 shots), M-23 Katana (modded: 4 shots, more stopping power), M-12 Locust, 2x flashbang grenades, 3x frag grenades
Wenera puts the medi-gel back in the pouch where she found it. "I know," she says softly, and glances behind her nervously as the smell of smoke is getting stronger.
Va'ynna nods faintly at Victoria's reassurances. "Yes, that... that sounds good," she mutters weakly. The medi-gel is starting to work and is numbing the pain there, which brings the pain from the bruises and wounds further down to the forefront of her mind.
Uvena takes cover behind the APC at Philip's announcement. "I'll need your magic on the wheeled APC, T'Iavay," she says over comms. "If we're taking it, that is." It does fall under things not nailed down.
Renala brings the salarian into the shuttle and buckles him into one of the seats. "And the codes for the APC," she pushes her luck after hearing Uvena over the comms.
Ehanis meets Zaylus in the door, carrying a bunch of papers under her arm and a turned-off terminal in the other. "I've got these rooms covered, I think," she says off comms before hurrying towards the hangar.
(Hallway) The smoke is getting denser quite rapidly now that the fire has come through from the maintenance corridor. It's not safe to be far from the entrance without a helmet for much longer.
(Hangar) The small shuttle is operational, and so is the Kodiak after the salarian unlocked it. The hangar is very cluttered and there's little visibility. A cursory look finds various tools and machines for working on vehicles, non-descript crates that don't give away what they have, and a generator. The garage door goes down to Philip's grenade launch that shakes the building once more, that bends it outward and derails it, causing
(Quarters) Fire starts spreading from the back wall. This is the room through the first door on the west wall.
(Meeting Room, Lobby) The rooms are starting to heat up as it's a matter of time before the fire breaks through the back wall.
(Office) The terminal is easily swept off the desk, and it disconnects from the power supply and charger. The interface shuts down as the hologram is obstructed by the floor. As for stationery, it's the typical things: paper tape, paperclips, pens, stapler, label maker, a few markers, empty folders and blank sheets of paper. The desks have drawers.
(Krogan Restroom) The turian woman is slumped down against the left wall with a large hole in her heavy armor. While the krogan has already taken the shotgun, she is still well-equipped: Phaeston, M-12 Locust, 3x Frag grenades, 4 things of clips.
The building is well insulated and that gave them time to gather some things, but when the fire got going, it really got going and losing the hallway cut things short. The hangar held for longer due to its size, but the fire has already gotten a foothold in the room when the last vehicle was out and well clear. The roof is still holding, but there's no going back inside as smoke pours out of every opening.
The shuttles and APC (M-080, full back cabin, no turret) were functional, and Renala was able to get them access to the Kodiak and the APC with the easiest form of hacking. There is a lot of open field south and east of the building, leaving ample space for both the recovered vehicles and Redrock's shuttle.
Weapons: Phaeston, 3x M-4 Shuriken, 2x M-12 Locust, 3x, M-96 Viper, M-6 Carnifex, M-6 Carnifex (modded: 9 shots), M-23 Katana (modded: more stopping power, -20% clip capacity), 2x Flash grenades, 6x Frag grenades.
The YMIR mech is still lying face-down on the ground. It's powered down, but not destroyed. It's in the path of the smoke, but still recoverable.
Jason wasn't willing to push his luck and called for everyone to evacuate as soon as the fire began approaching the central corridor that served as the main artery through the facility, not wanting to risk anyone being cut off or stuck anywhere. They took up a position south of the facility and, once everyone settled, he began delegating tasks. Jasper, Zaylus, and Phil have been tasked with getting the YMIR mech a safe distance away from
the facility in hope of retrieving it for Redrock. Renala has been relieved by Leah to guard Jelvan since the techie has far more important things to handle. First and foremost, she's been tasked with checking the vehicles secured from the site for any tracking devices and clearing out any identifying tags. Victoria and Uvena have been asked to stay with Va'ynna and Wenera for now in the crew compartment of the shuttle and make a
decision on whether or not Va'ynna needs to visit a hospital here in Aroste or whether she can hold out until they're back in Freedom Falls. Ehanis and Syld, unfortunately, are going to have to wait to have a conversation with Jason as he's currently seated in the co-pilot's seat in the cockpit- door closed- to re-establish contact with Vasquez. "...but the weather finally calmed down a little bit ago, so-..." he tilts his head,
Leah most certainly has not allowed Jelvan to keep his omni-tool. Not only has she taken it, but she's given him another pat down as well as using four zip ties for his ankles- one around each ankle connected by two loose ties- in order to ensure that if he tries to escape, the most he'll be able to do is slowly hobble off into the sunset. She remains silent, merely watching over the salarian in the new shuttle, having little
intention of striking up a conversation with the man who has been nothing more than a headache for the company she works for and- more importantly- a threat to her friends.
Jasper seemed eager to get the opportunity to use some high-tensile cables he's had stowed away for a rainy day. A couple of round cases about the size and shape of a vehicle wheel have been handed out to Zaylus and Phil. Each one contains has a cable with a hook on each side. After parking the APC a few feet from the YMIR, Jasper is stood overtop the mech to assess, hands on his hips as smoke billows out from the building ahead of
them. "....Yep. Oughtta get the job done, don'tcha think?" he asks, glancing between his two compatriots.
Victoria spent her time close to Va'ynna, doing her best to make sure she was alright. She has also been looking over Va'ynna, see how badly hurt she is. Her helmet currently off, and on a seat next to Va'ynna.
Zaylus is securing his cable, wrapping it around a thick portion of the mech's chassis and nestling the hook back on the cable. He pulls on and strikes his palm on it, in the universal standard of 'That's not going anywhere'. "Just don't drive too fast." He warns. "It gets stuck, could get messy." He pulls the cable taught while grabbing up the other hook, glancing over at Phil's work to
Philip finishes securing his own cable much like Zaylus and then steps back, scratching his head, other hand on his hip as he inspects the mech. "M-hm, should do it," he agrees with a couple of nods, going to grab his cable. "Y'know, this reminds me of helping my daddy haul this big ol' geth we took down."
Celyna is relishing the chance for a breather. She has taken a seat in the newly commandeered shuttle, feeling pretty wiped between her biotic exertions and her injuries. She's removed her helmet, and is taking big sips from a water bottle retrieved from Jasper's shuttle.
Linda (Comms): "Excellent work. Pack up everything you can and get back home. I doubt this is the end of it. I'll have Captain Crawford haul the APC. The crew's been wanting to take the Jack out for a test run after the repairs anyway."
Jelvan is not talkative either, and there's just a resigned sigh from him as he is tied down tight. The omni-tool was easily removed from his armor, but it shut down immediately upon removal.
Urdnot has stayed outside the shuttle where Wenera is being kept, and he intends to stay there until Wenera is allowed to go.
Renala has done as well as she can to scan for any anomalous devices, which was easy on the shuttle as she had a known (hopefully) good shuttle to compare against. The small shuttle took a little longer. Her search turned up nothing, but time will tell if it was a true or false negative. She did clear any beacons and other identifying data on both shuttles, however.
Va'ynna has fortunately avoided critical injury. There are some large bruises, but the bleeding wounds on her body would heal just fine without intervention. No broken bones as far as Uvena or Victoria could find with a scan. She has not protested when her jacket and sweater was temporarily removed/lifted to apply the medi-gel to relieve the pain and ward against infection.
Uvena has been patient as none of her questions had gotten much of an answer from Va'ynna. While she is relieved to have Va'ynna back, but the state she is in is affecting her.
Ehanis is standing next to Syld, looking a bit irritated. "With everyone of them dead or captured, and the building going down in flames, we should be good to go home, right?"
The YMIR mech scrapes against the concrete for a little bit before it's on the grassy field. Renala's drone hasn't survived, and it looks like a flattened smear of parts as the mech's been dragged over it.
Jason has his helmet nestled in Jasper's seat for now, rocking a serious case of bed-head after having worn it for a significant amount of time over the course of the day. "Yeah..." he nods, running a hand through his hair, "Just-... uhh-... stay in touch with Aroste authorities. I want to be on the up-and-up about this as much as possible. Let them know we're not going to impede any firefighting crews." He casts a glance out through the
image projected from the outside camera, emulating a windshield, as Jasper, Zaylus, and Philip work on the retrieving the YMIR. "Got a few things to do before we're ready to take off but it shouldn't be long." he continues, "Mainly making sure V is good to make the trip. I don't think it was a bad hit but-... ya never know. Might want to get her checked out locally first. And then there's Jelvan-..." he trails off with a sigh,
silence setting in for a moment. "...Guessing I should probably handle the interrogation and-... and everything here rather than bringing him back to Freedom Falls..." And everything. Doesn't sound quite like an execution when it's phrased that way...
Leah has shut down her visor, but she's still wearing the cap, opting for whatever barrier she can keep between her and the elements. She's stood up, leaning against the wall beside the door.
Jasper gives a few nods in agreement with the turian as he appraises the pairs' work. "Reckon s'long as I keep 'er nice an' slow it'll just skitter-right-on over this field." he says, casting a glance back behind him. "An' it ain't no big deal if it takes a few hits along the way. Ain't nothin' in known space that a hammer a, welder, and a fabricator can't fix." he declares proudly. Philip's addition causes him to raise a brow,
"Sounds like there's a story there." he snickers, unable to resist stepping up to give the cables a tug of his own. Gotta be sure.
Victoria looks at Va'ynna with a little concern, despite the scan coming up cleared her behaviour was the thing that gave her some concern. "Hey, did you want to talk about all of this now or a little later?" Her voice carrying the same concern her face portrayed.
Zaylus snorts, amused by Jasper's folksy self confidence. He lets him test the cables for himself before securing the other hook on the APC, taking a moment to ensure the length will be right. "What, did you salvage it or something?" He asks curiously, glancing up at Phil. "Sell it for scrap?"
There's a delay before Vasquez responds after Jason continues, a sigh preceding her words over the radio.
Philip snickers quietly as he too goes to attach his cable. "It was one of them big ones with the antenna. It was leadin' a raidin' party against our homestead. Scrapped the little ones, but hauled the big one back. My daddy turned it into a lamppost. Figured it might give 'em second thoughts about comin' back."
Celyna lets out a relieved breath after hydrating, extending the bottle in Leah's direction in a silent offer.
Va'ynna closes her eyes. "I... Just... need some time..., I think, it... this still doesn't feel... real."
Wenera sighs at Va'ynna's explanation, and looks at the other two. "Sala did threaten consequences to Va'ynna, not me, when we overstepped her boundaries on the trip in," she says. "She never did... anything to her as far as I could see, though. And Veronica... who was watching us most of the time since we got here, she was just annoyed about the whole situation, I think, and wanted nothing to do with us." She raises her
Uvena puts away the medi-gel. "I think Va'ynna will be fine for transport to Freedom Falls," she reports over comms, her voice coming across as affected by the situation.
Renala sits down on the doorway in the small shuttle. "I haven't found any trackers or unexpected devices in the shuttles," she reports over comms.
Linda (Comms): "...fine. Do it there. But post sentries, and be ready to bug out. We know his brother has additional forces."
Jason shifts in his seat, head tilting back against the headrest. "Yeah..." he says. There's another bout of silence. One that he seems like he wants to fill, but he doesn't. Another sigh slips out and he forces himself to sit up, Uvena and Renala's reports doing a solid job of bringing him back. Given his lack of helmet, they come in over his omni-tool, allowing them to be heard by Vasquez as well. "Sounds like we'll be home sooner than
expected." he says, doing his best to prop up a smile, "So I'll see you soon, alright?" He doesn't end the call right away in case she has anything to add.
Jasper lets out a long whistle. As Phil continues, his shoulders bounce a little with laughter. "Ya, reckon it might make 'em think twice." he snickers. "But a homestead fightin' off a geth raid? That ain't nothin'! Them sonovaguns don't mess around. I remember when we ran into-... well you weren't there-..." he indicates Phil before glancing Zaylus' way. "...but you remember that?" he asks, as if it's something someone could just
forget. He gives the turian a quick nudge with his elbow. "Geth were all over us!" he explains for Phil's sake, another bout of laughter slipping out of him, "By the end a' that ordeal, I was just 'bout ready to reshit my britches!"
Victoria takes the omni-tool from Wenera and gives her an appreciate nod. "Oh, I almost forgot about that too. Thanks." She looks back at Va'ynna, the concern still on her face. "Right, I'll be right here with you Va'ynna. You need anything, let me know."
Zaylus lets out more amused chuckling, even if he seems a little dubious about the idea of a geth scarecrow. He isn't as lighthearted about the memory Jasper is invoking, evidenced by a stiffness that is broken when the human nudges him. "Yeah I remember." He huffs. "Those things are a nightmare. I don't know how I'd like having one hung up outside my house." He muses.
Celyna puts the bottle away, her attention eventually turning to Jelvan. "So... who's bright idea was it, anyway? If it wasn't yours," she asks, her tone more 'small talk' than 'interrogation' as she returns to their previous exchange.
Philip nods in agreement with Jasper's assessment that 'Them sonovaguns don't mess around' as he continues to work. The exchange that follows between the mechanic and Zaylus has him listen in silent interest, until the turian's words prompt him to speak up with "I sure don't," he admits. "Still gives me a good scare now and then, especially comin' in in the dark."
